Terrain:Mountain biking at Ae has its origins in competition racing. There's been many a gruelling XC race at Ae and the downhill track is one of the top locations in the calendar.

At Ae you've got a choice of the new Ae Line - Scottish Power Renewables Trail or the very steep and fast downhill track.
Details: Ae might be a small word but the forest is huge, so here are some directions to get you straight to the 7stanes car park.

From the North, the M74 junction15 near Moffat and Beattock leads to Dumfries. Take the A701 (signposted Dumfries) Go through traffic lights at St Anne’s bridge and after approximately 4 miles Turn right (signposted Forest of Ae), continue to follow direction below.

From Dumfries, Ae is approximately 10 miles North East of Dumfries.

From the Dumfries ring road, turn north on A701 (signposted Glasgow, Edinburgh). At the Tinwald Downs roundabout take the first exit onto the A701, go through Heathhall and Locharbriggs. After approximately 7 miles turn left onto a minor road signposted to the Forest of Ae.

At Ae village, take the first right leading down to the Forestry Commission Scotland offices. Go past these (or stop off for a trail map) and after 50m or so, take the first forest road on the left. Continue through the valley, crossing a cattle grid after about 300m, and then shortly after another one at a gate take a left into the 7stanes car park.
