Her scholarship often involves pacifism or pedagogy or both--for instance, in articles published by English Journal and Virginia English Bulletin. Recent CCCC presentations and work-in-progress look at the rhetorics of war and peace. She is a member of Rhetoricians for Peace and the Carolinas Writing Program Administrators. In Spring 2000, she received the Chancellor's Distinguished Teaching Award.
