Interview Information / Experience: | 3 interviewers. One wants to assess your clinical knowledge, thus you present an interesting case, and you are also presented a case to elaborate DD, and management. Second will ask you about your research achievements, and the third one will ask general questions. Program is relatively big-12 R1 positions. It is pure community hospital without any university affiliations. Hospital is also in a bad financial shape but it was bailed out many times before by the state government that will hopefully also force the University of Maryland to establish affiliation with the hospital. Of course the program is IMG only, and it is intended mostly for primary care. It is going to be really hard to get any fellowship. Hospital is shabby, all doors are always locked (think how safe it is), the serving area is extremely unsafe. Nevertheless, I observed a very good example of teaching. Attending spent at least 30 minutes discussing patients with intern and a resident, explained several issues, I even learned myself.
I did not like two things: the morning report was too messy. PC sent very nice copy-paste after the interview letter. Everybody received exactly the same, I checked but it was pretended to be personal. Even though the PC looked very polite during the interview, she is not approachable after it. She does not reply to your e-mails even if you need certain information which is directly relevant to the interview you just had.
Also, they ask you to confirm interview 1 week prior to the scheduled date, which can be an indicator of many cancellations. |
