Interview Information / Experience: | Interviewed in January,we were given a nice lodge to stay in called Cabot Lodge, and we were taken by few residents and a chief resident for a pre-interview dinner at a nice restuarant, residents were happy and were nice to talk to and they said they were happy here.
Jackson is a small city though now it is growing rapidly, inexpensive to live in just like Columbia,Missouri,But only advantage over missouri Columbia is that this place has got an airport, though a small one southwest,AA,delta and Northwest fly to Jackson and they r expanding this airport. The dinner went well and we were dropped back to our hotels by the residents.Morning 7:00 am we were picked up by Hospital Vehicle and talken to a conference room, welcomed by chief residents there. Then we had a short presentation by PD and Int med chief regarding the programme.
Basically they were highlighting that they have good education and 100% board pass rate for past 5 years!!.
Then went off to morning report conducted by chief resident who was very nice who dropped us back to interview offices,I then had my first interview with and assitant PD who was very friendly and nice-no medical questions asked.
Then by PD herself,no medical questions asked here as well just general discussion.
All the time two chief residents were with us and they were down to earth and very nice both of them are going in for cardio fellowship and one of them in the same university, they have 5 cardio positions and starting interventional cardio fellowships soon.
The salary is below average than other places but this year it is set to go up to national average.
Then we were taken for hospial rounds and the facilities seemed excellent,i guess because This is the only university in whole of state people can pool in funds for this one hospital, they are building a new hospital which will be of same capacity as old one but with private rooms.
Overal it is a very good programme.
PROS: Good university programme > 80% match into fellowship of their choice, good teaching, fantastic facilities,Jackson is inexpensive, people match into top fellowship programmes.
Cons: Takes only 1-3 fmg's every year.only J1 visa no H1B sponsored.
