Interview Information / Experience: | Besides a good dinner on the previous night with Faculty and Residents - The Interview Started with a general introduction about the program and Columbia city (pretty small) by the program coordinator. They have about 17 catergorical first year positions and 3 prelim. Will be expanding soon she said. They have a cool roster of fellowships - Cardiology, Hemo-Onc, Nephorology, Pulmonary and Endocrinology.
We then had a morning case-presentation by residents about a case of Immudefinciency. This was followed by a tour of the medical facilities - pretty impressive. I noticed the abundance of Indian IMGs during the rounds. On the rounds the resident told us how this year the program was looking at an average score of 94-95 on the USMLE steps.
My first interview was a by a Internal medicine Generalist, was good. She was very friendly and asked general questions. The second interview was by the chief resident - also pretty general with no medical Qs. Then came a good lunch followed up by a final interview with the program director. It went fine too - no Medical Qs. However, he told me how this year they were mostly not gonna give H1 visas, since the last year 2 residents got delayed due to that. So I am not sure if I will be ranking them high.
Overall, the residents are happy - but they were the ones that came on an H1 visa. We probably may not get them this year at this place. Secondly, you can't fail to notice the number of Indian residents and faculty too.
