Program Name:saint barnabas ,NJ
Interview Information / Experience:Interview started at 7.45 a.m . Greeted by Program coordinator . ... then waited for a long time and they made us sit in conference room , presentation of program by chief resident ,they give presentation from old slides and while showing them will say these are old figures and will keep on updating then ... that really gives bad impression cany they update them in there slides. anyways it was for 50 mins or so .they answered our queries there and gave us a list of frequently asked questoions and told us not to ask these questions to PD he doesnt like it ???
then the individual interviews started ,PD speaks so softly and will make u sit 25 feet away from his chair ..hard to hear what he say.. it was not me everybody had same problem . he asked general questions about ur perforamnce in med school .he s very much obsessed by scores ..loves high scorers - and then the general talk .he spent 30 mins approx on each person . a reserved person ..not very approachable . then they took us for tour of hospital ..very big hospital . tour was little boring . they have renal transplant thing there so they focus too much on nephrology .. have manadatory rotations there.
no night float in first year , u have to spend 7a.m to 1 p.m. next day there , every forth day u have to stay there overnight. PD forces you to write lot of rheumatology articles then himself becomes the author and makes you the co- authors.
After the tour thay gave us meal tickets for 4 dollars but there cafeteria was so expensive everybody ended up paying more money from pocket.
lot of private patients . very few patients for residnets to take care. No independent decision making because of private patients , rich people come there as patients.
No fellowships . Offers prematches but Late in dec or january. Not a very orgeanised interview .We had to wait for long time . There computer was not working so they downloaded applications very late. They dont confirm your interview date for 10- 15 days , these things do matter shows how much they care. Anyways, it is an average comm hospital. Very safe area to live , but again, expensive housing. Hospital as such is good but because of mainly private patients not much to learn. r
