Description:Following the Norman Conquest the lands which now occupy the central part of Manchester were granted to the Gresley family, who took the title 'De la Ware'. In the 15th century Thomas de la Ware founded the church which was to become Chetham's School. Margeret Curry's fascinating talk to the society in April 2008 described the history ot the city and she showed how the city has changed today following the IRA bomb.
