Play Title:The Old Woman who Lived in a Shoe
Runtime:61-90 minutes
Synopsis:You know that the old woman who lived in a shoe had so many children she didn’t know what to do. But did you know that her children were Jack, Jill, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, Hansel, Gretel, and Mary? When all the food in the cupboard mysteriously disappears, Old Mother Hubbard sends Jack out to sell his cow and buy more food. Jack meets up with a witch and trades his cow for magic beans. Meanwhile, a confused wolf blows down the family’s house, thinking that it belongs to the three little pigs who live down the street. Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks set out to visit Grandma and ask if the family can move in. The hungry Hansel and Gretel decide to go on their own adventure, when Little Miss Muffet tells them of a house made of gingerbread. Mary and her lamb sneak away with a secret and all of the family’s food. Jack returns to show his mother his magic beans, but she is none too pleased and throws them out. On the way to Grandmother’s house, Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks are approached by the same wolf that blew down their house. Goldilocks runs away in fear, while Little Red Riding Hood continues on her journey. The hungry wolf steals her red cape and rushes ahead. He tries to con Grandma out of her food, but Grandma sees through his disguise. The wolf explains that he is hungry because he gave all his food to a witch in exchange for a spell that granted him the ability to speak. Grandma sets off to the gingerbread house to tell the witch to take away the wily wolf’s voice. Hansel and Gretel find the fabled gingerbread house. They enjoy eating the delicious dwelling until the witch catches them and punishes them by turning them into a dish and a spoon. Little Red Riding Hood arrives at Grandmother’s house and the wolf now dressed as Grandma once again fails to trick anyone. Fleeing three bears, the terrified Goldilocks runs to Grandmother’s house only to find she is now facing the wolf again. The bears arrive and Goldilocks apologizes for eating Baby Bear’s porridge, explaining that she was starving since all of her family’s food vanished. The group decides to set out to the gingerbread house to solve the mystery of the missing food. With all her children gone, Old Mother Hubbard laments so often exclaiming that she has so many children she does not know what to do. Little Miss Muffet informs the crying woman that she knows of Hansel and Gretel’s whereabouts. Mary and her lamb arrive at the gingerbread house. In exchange for the family food supply, the witch places a spell on the lamb so she can talk. The now talkative lamb scolds Mary for her selfishness. Grandma arrives just in time to prevent Mary from being turned into a teapot. Pursued by a giant, Jack and Jill run by. When the giant threatens to eat the gingerbread house, the witch uses her magic to shrink him. Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf, Goldilocks, and the three bears arrive and the group convinces the witch to turn Hansel and Gretel back into people. Old Mother Hubbard is reunited with her children. After another witch’s spell, the happy family takes up residence in the giant’s lost shoe.
