Play Title:The Street
Runtime:91-120 minutes
Synopsis:Whitney Davis-Scott, a veteran banker has returned to New York from a failed romantic escapade. Rather than step back into her old job, she decides to open her own investment firm and convinces a former colleague, Tiki King, to leave the male-dominated company she works for to join her.

Whitney plunges into the market with bold steps that immediately gets her into hot water. The action centers around saving their fledgling business.

The Street lampoons topical issues like insider trading, SEC witch-hunts, and family values. It also pokes fun at some lighter ones: what it takes to get a kid into the ‘right’ NY private school; metro-sexuality; and corporate executives who thrive in jail.

Supporting characters include an abrasive, gay, and successful female CEO who likes to go-for-broke; her right hand man whose grandiose ideas ultimately destroy their company; the successful owner of a Greek restaurant (where much of the action takes place); an Admissions Director from a snooty Manhattan private school; and the seemingly invisible office cleaning woman.

Music is mainly up-tempo; lyrics humorous and contemporary. One song, It Must Be Me, is the show’s anthem: reprised several times by different characters, it’s about the difficulty in shaking old habits. Two other songs: That’s Marketing– a tongue-in-cheek expose of today’s commercial world, and Hamilton Has a Hard-on a peak into the motivations and mores of a designing woman, are particularly amusing.

The Street lets us laugh at the challenges of change and growth. Even with age and experience, ultimately, we must follow our heart.
The Street is a comedy for our times.
