Marguerite fell in love with an unsuitable young man on board ship and her enraged brother abandoned her on a deserted island in the Strait of Belle Isle with her lover and nurse. The play takes place on a fall day in 1544 when a nearly mad Marguerite sees a boat anchor off the island. Is rescue possible? Does she want it? As she struggles to make a decision she is beset by phantoms of her lover, and her nurse who she led to their deaths, her brother who felt justified in taking hers, and her mentor, the elegant and powerful Queen of Navarre who counsels compromise. | Male: | 2 | Female: | 3 | Max.
