Synopsis:Former freedom fighter Lucinda Celeste now lives in quiet isolation. Her neighbor and protector, Rex Eaglejeep, brings the news that someone is looking for her. He fears Lucinda is going to be subject to governmental persecution, since the law bearing her name is about to be repealed and there is a stirring of rebellion among the populace. Lucinda's long estranged son, Otto, appears. Although he claims he only wants to get to know his mother again, it is revealed that he has actually come to deliver an official document informing his mother that her property is going to be confiscated. Believing Lucinda gave him up when he was a child, he is now bitter toward her and unsympathetic with her history of dissidence. Rex urges Lucinda to take up once again her fight against the repressive government. Luther, a man from the Bureau of Land and Transportation, comes to Lucinda's home to deliver the confiscation document. She unwillingly resorts to violence to thwart him, but she no longer has the stomach to do battle with the government. Her last fight cost her her son, her husband, and her home, and she is now willing to give up her property in order to be left alone. Rex loves Lucinda and agrees to stay with her and protect her. As Lucinda prepares to leave her home, Otto returns. He becomes more doubtful of his judgment against her when learns that she did not give him away when he was young, as he had thought, but that he was taken from her by force. Luther returns to deliver the confiscation document and to advise Lucinda to turn herself over to the government for disposition. Rex has been arrested and Lucinda is now alone. Otto invites her live with him. Their reacquaintence has opened his heart. But she has decided not to leave her home, even though the machines that are going to level her house, with her in it, are within earshot and coming closer.
