Stoney Madonna, self-proclaimed Showman Extraordinaire, recognizes the true magic of this gift and is taking Marshall on a performance tour through the backwater towns of California, dreaming of fame and fortune for them both. The show is flopping, however, and Marshall and Stoney are stuck in a shabby motel, low on cash. Marshall feels like a freak, and longs to be grounded and ordinary. Althea Turlock, a local townswoman who has seen the show, comes to the motel room demanding that Marshall teach her how to float. She has a vivid, desperate spirit and believes she sees in Marshall the freedom her life lacks. Her unbridled appetite for his magic frightens Marshall, and he resolves to give up floating for good. Instead he takes a job helping Patsy Bean, the stern, unimaginative motel maid. Hurt and betrayed by Marshall’s decision, Stoney packs up and walks out, leaving Marshall vulnerable to the battle waged by Patsy and Althea for ownership of him. Dennis Wheatley, Althea's one-legged husband, shows up begging her to return home. And right in the middle of all this, Marshall's body tries to float, while he fights with all his will to stay connected to earth. | Male: | 3 | Female: | 2 | Max. Cast: | 5 | Min.
