Play Title:Stabat Mater
Runtime:31-60 minutes
Synopsis:Sofia Aminoff’s radio play Stabat Mater starts off when two actresses, a director and a dramatist decide – despite some reluctance – to do a play about motherhood. The play then depicts its own conception, how the crew go to the dramatist´s home in the countryside in order to work on the performance, and how it takes its final form in the radio studio.

Although this is clearly metatheatre, it is also a type of road movie in which we interchange between the outer and inner levels of reality. Sofia Aminoff, inspired by both Pergolesi’s ’Stabat mater’ and Julia Kristeva’s texts, not only takes the four women on a ramble in the forest. She also takes them on a journey to the inner sanctum of motherhood and to the deepest levels of female consciousness.

The play is translated by Ann Albrecht.
