Play Title:The Death of a Miner
Runtime:61-90 minutes
Synopsis:In this non-linearly structured drama, Mary Alice, a female coal miner, dies in a mining accident and her community is divided as they deal with blame and guilt. Set in the late 1970s, when women were just starting to enter the mining industry, the play explores the difficulties Mary Alice encounters in trying to make a living, the difficulties her family faces in having a wife/mother with such an unusual job, and ultimately, the reasons for her death. Haunting every scene, Mary Alice provides a lyrical counterpoint to the gritty interactions of the survivors.
