Synopsis: | A prose poem to modern urban American life. Set on one sleepless night on one city block of a blue-collar street in Hollywood, STREET STORIES is about people who are bombarded with the roar of traffic, sirens, with petty crime, money anxieties, with the threat of old age. Everybody's awake, everybody’s alone, but ultimately everybody’s connected. There are no movie stars, no cameras—the only bright lights are those of the police helicopters, roaring relentlessly overhead. The cross-dressing Bayla looks out for an old man abandoned by his family; a young woman, Monica, hides from her past. Elise runs through the night, trying to connect. These people are survivors—and in this play they turn to eccentric and eclectic means to stay alive. |
