Play Title:GOD KNOWS
Runtime:11-30 minutes
Synopsis: The seriocomedy, GOD KNOWS, explores the close business and personal relationship between two aging prostitutes, Millie and Tess – each of whom, in her own perception of reality, is engaged in self-deception.
Millie, the senior partner of their prostitution service, still attractive and alluring, is hardened to the game, to life, to men. She knows what she is, accepts it and lives with it comfortably. She derives pride in her profession, seeing it as an altruistic service, therefore not conflicting with her religious roots and beliefs. There are no illusions for her: a spade is a spade, a trick is a trick.
Tess, her younger protégé-turned partner, loves Millie, her only “family,” and tries to draw her into her fantasy of a chance for a respectable life. Recognizing that Tess, a mixture of toughness, naivete and vulnerability, is fragile and resists facing the reality of her origins and future, Millie handles these touchy issues by humoring her. But Millie is careful not to go too far or the friendship and partnership would end – and this is her worst fear.
Enter Tess’ client, Harry, a successful businessman, totally self-centered and dependent on Tess for his sexual gratification, who unwittingly triggers the angst between her and Millie and moves the play forward to its climax.
