Synopsis:What turns a brilliant young scientist into an eccentric recluse? Faced with a threat to her beloved work with the maize plant, Barbara struggles against her past
Barbara, a plant geneticist, is in love with her work, and with the maize she has studied for 60 years. Jim, the new lab director, tries to get Barbara to change—study DNA with him, or just retire. But Barbara remembers how her best research was ignored by the world, and refuses to change, or to take on a young student, Nina.
Eventually, Barbara connects with her younger self and teaches Nina how to plant maize. Barbara and Young Barbara join in a hymn to their work on maize. “What joy,” they say. “What joy.”
