Ultimately, this searchable database will hopefully become a valuable research tool for vintage Macintosh hobbyists and academia, if not just an interesting picture of the usefulness of the original Macintosh model.
Here's a few pointers for entering information. The serial number is really all that is required. It can be found underneath the front bezel next to the contrast knob or on the very bottom of the case. The manufacture information can be determined by entering the serial number in this decoder: http://macfaq.org/serial.html , or this one: http://myoldmac.net/FAQ/Mac-Serialnumber-decoder-e.php And you may chose to enter it into the database or not. Please also list the current location of the M0001 if nothing else.
Your Model is determined by the serial number for the purposes of this database, regardless of what your M0001 has been converted into.
Note you can enter serial numbers for the Macintosh & Macintosh 128K (M0001), Macintosh 512K (M0001W), Macintosh 512Ke (M0001E), Macintosh Plus (M0001A), any variations not included here (P, D, etc.) and certain Apple disk drives designed specifically for use with the M0001 which manufacture information can also be derived from the above linked decoder. These include the Hard Disk 20 (M0135), 400K External Drive (M0130) and 800K External Drive (M0131) the serial number of which for the decoder is created by adding the model number to then end. So please register everything you have.
For RAM, you should only list that RAM that is permanently installed (soldered) in your M0001, not clipped on upgrades that can be removed. In the case of the Mac Plus, obviously all of the RAM is removable, but for this purpose consider 1-4MB "permanent", regardless if more has been added through 3rd party add-on boards.
Under description, feel free to list anything about your M0001 that is not taken care of in the database fields like that Dove MacSnap RAM & 512K SCSI upgrades, internal hard drives, accelerators, etc., as well as the color of paint you used, the type of modifications you've made and how you use it. Don't forget to click the "3rd party upgrade" box ONLY if you have added anything upgrading it beyond Apple's OFFICIAL upgrade path, i.e. 128K-512K-512Ke-Plus 1MB-2MB-2.5MB-4MB.
If you know of any general changes that need to be made to this database, please register and discuss them on this forum thread: http://68kmla.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2234 or this one: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/vintage-macs/hGFksL2e1us which you will find an invaluable resource for working with your M0001 should you not already be a member, or contact the M0001 Registry administrator directly:
