    Title:What to expect on Colonoscopy?
    Article:

Colonoscopy is the procedure for viewing and treating lower digestive tract problems.
Colonoscopy helps to see inside your colon and rectum. Your doctor can find the problems and treat some of them. Thin flexible tube (colonoscope) contains fiber optics. The tube goes into your colon. Doctor controls the movements. He can see enlarged picture on a monitor. He can also manipulate some flexible thin instruments like different types of loops, scissors and forceps. The instruments allow to remove polyps or other growing abnormalities in your colon. Biopsy means “taking a sample of the tissue”. The sample goes to pathology lab to be researched with microscope. Doctor can look for signs of bleeding or inflammation in your colon to offer better treatment. Doctors may take pictures of your colon and put them in your chart.

    To make your experience better.

    6. Use water or broth two days before colonoscopy instead of solid foods.

    7. Do not drive car home. The doctors will give you twilight sleeping medication during the colonoscopy. You will be sleepy after the procedure. Somebody should pick you up.
    8. Expect that your colon will be blown with air during the procedure
    9. Expect some pressure and cramping when colonoscope is inserted.
    10. Expect that the procedure will take an hour.
    11. Expect that you spend several hours in waiting areas before procedure (to fill paperwork) and after the procedure (to recover).
    12. Half an hour to hour will take to recover
    13. You may eat few hours later (usually), unless doctor tells otherwise.
    14. Try to walk to prevent bloating. Some air may stay in colon and cause gas pain for while.
    15. Doctor may tell results of colonoscopy right after procedure or later.
    16. Results of biopsy usually come a week after the procedure.
