"Father," she whispered to God, "please forgive me for my evil thoughts." Aurora knew that revenge belonged to God alone. Her job was to protect her maidens by teaching them to live by the Code. A Code that came from the Father Himself. With her eyes closed and her face turned up to the Light, she could feel strength coming into her again."
Sophie is trying so hard to live by the Code of the Corn Flakes which means no returning hurt for hurt. The girls all agree to try something new though, something that doesn't necessarily seem to violate the code: sarcasm. If they can make smart remarks that cause the others to laugh at the ones doing the bullying, maybe the bullying will finally stop. The problem is that it makes the Corn Pop and Fruit Loop bullies even angrier and determined to destroy Sophie and the Corn Flakes. And it makes the teachers think that the Corn Flakes are the ones causing the trouble. All they see is the girls clowning around, especially Sophie with her head shaved in support of Kitty who lost her hair to Leukemia. When Sophie gets caught lying to the Corn Pops by insulting the Corn Flakes and her friends overhear it, she's now added her friends to the list of people who are mad at her. Where is justice now? | Extra Notes: | In Sophie Breaks The Code, Sophie learns the importance of forgiveness - having others forgive her and accepting forgiveness from Jesus and her loved ones! She's never been on this end of things before. Her guilt over betraying those she loves goes deep.
The Sophie series is about a 12 year old girl in 6th, then 7th grade who, along with her friends, the Corn Flakes, is trying to live the way Jesus wants in the midst of middle school drama. Between bullies, grades, parents, siblings, and boys life can be pretty difficult. The Corn Flakes are known for their big imaginations and create videos of the things Sophie dreams up. I highly recommend this series, not just for young girls, but for anyone who wants to be challenged spiritually or just enjoy a great story! | Reviewer: | J:-)mi | Recommendation Scale: | 5 |
