When Ally & Graby get assigned to his group for the science fair invention, they are a little leery. After all, you can't really invent a time machine. Certainly not if you're just a kid! Except, when they sit down in the car and Max presses the right buttons, they kind of, well... disappear... and reappear - in a time period where dinosaurs are roaming the earth - including the T-Rex. Ok so maybe Max's invention does work. But now all they want is to get to safety! Except it seems the Creator of the universe has a slightly different plan in mind. The battle for their lives may be over, but the battle for their souls has just begun! | Extra Notes: | Timebenders deals with some sensitive subjects - Grady's father has just died and he is hoping Max's time machine will really work - so he can go back in time and get his father the treatment he needs before it's too late and come back to the present and find his father alive again. Max isn't sure that's wise, but agrees and attempts to take them 2 years back. He winds up taking them more like a few thousand years back instead, but the issue is still there, overshadowing Grady's character. Then there's Toby, who basically is ready to make a deal with the devil rather than God and sell his soul and betray his classmates. Kind of scary stuff. But Jim Denney deals with it in a little bit lighthearted of a tone. He doesn't dive into the feelings and pain as much as he could. So the book does work for younger teens as well as older teens. | Reviewer: | J:-)mi | Recommendation Scale: | 4 |
