That's the plan of the girls from the trailer park. It's alot harder to take on 4 girls than 1. It doesn't stop with just walking to and from school together though. The girls realize that the trailer park really does look pathetic. With trash everywhere, the sign falling down, and the general run-down look of the place it's no wonder the bully thinks they're worthless. Enter project Girl Power: they clean, paint, plant, and decorate the trailer park till it looks really nice. And through all of this the girls begin to develop a true friendship with each other. Then trouble strikes in the night and the girls have some decisions to make. | Extra Notes: | This book touches on poverty and gives us a picture of what life might be like for girls from low-income families. The girls are just like anyone else, but a little embarrassed and shy and self-conscious because of where they live and their families' incomes. Melody Carlson does a good job of showing how the girls are no different than anyone else. Low-income status tells about how much stuff you have, not what kind of person you are. | Reviewer: | J:-)mi | Recommendation Scale: | 4 |
