That's a word that brings hope to Maya. She's never been normal before, but living with her uncle and cousin she may have a chance at it! Working, going to high school, making friends, dating, attending Church and youth group are all part of her new normal life. But being convinced to write articles for the newspaper and do a tv show about being green aren't so normal. Her environmentally friendly stance is getting more and more well-known and people are eager to have her to more to promote it. And finding out what is means to be a true Christian may be normal but it's not easy. There are so many Christians who spend all their time judging everyone else. And the non-Christians seem to be doing stupider and stupider things till Maya is really afraid for them. When a Christian family wants to go after Maya for an accident that wasn't her fault and her boyfriend gets mad at her for not wanting to go to far physically, Maya's faith gets a real test. | Extra Notes: | The lessons of It's A Green Thing are forgiveness, how to act towards non-believers, how to act towards other Christians that are too judgmental to even have anyone enjoy being around them, and as always, Maya's tips on taking care of the environment. Each chapter ends with a "Tip" from Maya about being green. One of the neatest things about this book is Maya's relationship with Caitlin who is mentoring her. It's neat to see a picture of something like that, a concept sometimes missing in today's culture. Maya has someone older to turn to for advice, someone to meet with weekly and talk with and pray with. It's pretty cool to see the author's portrayal of that. | Reviewer: | J:-)mi | Recommendation Scale: | 4 |
