| Make It A Great Day | 7/8/2005 | Make It A Great Day:
Today you have the opportunity to enrich your life. You can choose to just get through the day, or you can choose to make today count. Start by counting your blessings. Appreciate the people in your life. Be thankful for the experiences you've had, and the things you have learned. And if there is someone you've neglected to say "thank you" to, today would be a great day to do it.
Then look for ways to make a difference. In your work, in your family, in your community, with your friends, and with perfect strangers. resolve to do something today that will make the world a better place.
Finally, do something for yourself. Take the first step toward something you've always wanted to do. If you keep putting it off, it will never happen. But, if you take the first step today, and then another tomorrow, and the next day, and the next, you'll reach your dream.
It all starts TODAY! Stand up, step forward, and make it a GREAT one!

| Be Proud Of Who You Are | 7/3/2005 | This is deep, so take your time.
Why Did You Make Me Black Lord ?... Lord .... Why did you make me black? Why did you make someone the world would hold back?
Black is the color of dirty clothes, of grimy hands and feet... Black is the color of darkness, of tired beaten streets...
Why did you give me thick lips, a broad nose and kinky hair? Why did you create someone
who receives the hated stare?
Black is the color of the bruised eye when someone gets hurt... Black is the color of darkness, black is the color of dirt.
Why is my bone structure so thick, my hips and cheeks so high? Why are my eyes brown, and not the color of the sky?
Why do people think I'm useless? How come I feel so used? Why do people see my skin and think I should be abused?
Lord, I just don't understand... What is it about my skin? Why is it some people want to hate me and not know the person within?
Black is what people are "Labeled" when others want to keep them away... Black is the color of shadows cast... Black is the end of the day.
Lord you know my own people mistreat me, and you know this just ain't right... They don't like my hair, they don't like my skin, as they say I'm too dark or too light!
Lord, don't you think it's time to make a change? Why don't you redo creation and make everyone the same?
GOD's Reply:
Why did I make you black?
Why did I make you black?
I made you in the color of coal from which beautiful diamonds are formed... I made you in the color of oil, the black gold which keeps people warm.
Your color is the same as the rich dark soil that grows the food you need... Your color is the same as the black stallion and panther, Oh what majestic creatures indeed!
All colors of the heavenly rainbow can be found throughout every nation... When all these colors are blended, you become my greatest creation!
Your hair is the texture of lamb's wool, such a beautiful creature is he... I am the shepherd who watches them, I will ALWAYS watch over thee!
You are the color of the midnight sky, I put star glitter in your eyes... There's a beautiful smile hidden behind your pain... That's why your cheeks are so high!
You are the color of dark clouds from the hurricanes I create in September... I made your lips so full and thick, so when you kiss...they will remember!
Your stature is strong, your bone structure thick to withstand the burden of time... The reflection you see in the mirror, that image that looks back,..that is MINE!
So get off your knees, look in the mirror and tell me what you see? I didn't make you in the image of darkness... I made you in the image of ME!

| Woman to Woman Encouragement | 6/15/2005 | Woman to Woman Encouragement
Someone will always be prettier. They will always be smarter. Their house will be bigger. They will drive a better car. Their children will do better in school. And their husband will fix more things around the house.
So let it go, and love you and your circumstances. Think about it. The prettiest woman in the world can have sorrow in her heart. And the most highly favored woman on your job may be unable to have children. And the richest woman you know -- she's got the car, the house, the clothes --might be lonely. And the Word says if I have not Love, I am nothing. So, again, love you. Love who you are right now and let God be your barometer. Mirror Him. Look in the mirror in the morning and see how much of God you see. He's the only standard
and even when you come up short; He will not leave you or forsake you. Smile and may God continue to bless you.
"I am too blessed to be stressed or depressed, and too anointed to be disappointed!"
The shortest distance between a problem and a solution is the distance between your knees and the floor.
"The one who kneels to God can stand up to anything." "Winners make things happen. Losers let things happen."
Be Blessed ladies and pass this on to encourage another woman.
"To the world, you might be only one person, but to one person, you just might be the world." "God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the 'ONE' I can change, and the wisdom to know that it's ME"
Have a great day and remember...
"Kindness is contagious...pass it on."

| marriage advice | 6/15/2005 | What marriage advice did you get? Best response so far: I didn't get much advice when I got married. I think my wife got a lot, though (LOL). But a LOT of young people getting married have asked ME for advice. and they always want to narrow it down by asking, "What's the one most important thing you could tell us that will help our marriage?"
Well, since so many have asked, after that first time I really spent TIME pondering which would actually be the most vaulable to a young couple. It finally dawned on me, and it was nothing like the inquirers would expect . . .
"Well, I'd have to say the single most important thing to keep in mind would be to know when to SHUT THE HELL UP!"
LOL they normally bust out laughing. But in quick time it sinks in that i'm serious and they want an explanation.
My explanation is based on two premises: 1) Sometimes the best communication IS silence. It gives both parties time to think and settle down. You can't resolve ANYTHING while still in the heat of the moment. And 2) you keep going tit-for-tat and eventually someone is going to say something that can't be taken back and will never be forgotten. Another root chopped off the tree.
People get married under two conditions - convenience or infatuation. They have NO idea what love really is when they say, "I do".
No matter what the reason you marry someone, it takes time to LEARN to love someone, and you will never have that time needed if you don't create a peaceful environment that ALLOWS you that time.
ONE of you HAS to be smart enough to stop and think, "I should just shut the hell up" and then DO it!!!

| INTERVIEW WITH A RAPIST, INSTRUCTIONS (BE SAFE) | 6/10/2005 | >A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what >they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts: > >1) The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They >are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or other >hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a >woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets. >********************************************** >2) The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women >whose clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors >around to cut clothing. >********************************************** >3) They also look for women on their cell phone, searching through their >purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard >and can be easily overpowered. >********************************************** >4) The time of day men are most likely to attack and rape a woman is in >the early morning, between 5 and 8:30 a.m. >********************************************** >5) The number one place women are abducted from/attacked at is grocery >store parking lots. Number two is office parking lots/garages. Number >three is public restrooms. >********************************************** >6) The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman >and quickly move her to a second location where they don't have to worry >about getting caught. >********************************************** >7) Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year >sentence but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years. >********************************************** >8) If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged >b ecause it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going >after you isn't worth it because it will be time consuming. >********************************************** >9) These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas, or >other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands. >Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the >attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys >you're not worth it. >********************************************** >10) Several defense mechanisms he taught us are: If someone is following >behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or >stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time >is it, or make general small talk, I can't believe it is so cold out >here or we're in for a bad winter. Now you've seen their face and could >identify them in a lineup, you lose appeal as a tar get. >********************************************** >11) If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you >and yell Stop or Stay back! Most! of the rapists this man talked to said >they'd leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would no be >afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target. >********************************************** >12) If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it >and carries it with him wherever he goes), yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY >and holding it out will be a deterrent. >********************************************** >13) If someone grabs you, you can't beat them with strength but you can >by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, >pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or >in the upper inner thigh --HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught >told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date >rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle >strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places >as hard as you can stand it; it hurts. >********************************************** >1 4) After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a >particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy's parts it is >extremely painful. You might think that you'll anger the guy and make >him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our >instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause a lot of >trouble. Start causing trouble, and he's out of there. >********************************************** >15) When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers >and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down >on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much >pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly. >********************************************** >16) Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of >your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any >odd behavior, don't dismiss it, and go with your instincts. You may feel >a little silly at the time, but you'd feel much worse if the guy really >was trouble. | G Pure |

| WHY MARRIAGE? | 5/31/2005 | Because to the depths of me, I long to love one person, With all my heart, my soul, my mind, my body...
Because I need a forever friend to trust with the intimacies of me, Who won't hold them against me, Who loves me when I'm unlikable, Who sees the small child in me, and Who looks for the divine potential of me...
Because I need to cuddle in the warmth of the night With someone who thanks God for me, With someone I feel blessed to hold...
Because marriage means opportunity To grow in love in friendship...
Because marriage is a discipline To be added to a list of achievements...
Because marriages do not fail, people fail When they enter into marriage Expecting another to make them whole...
Because, knowing this, I promise myself to take full responsibility For my spiritual, mental and physical wholeness I take half of the responsibility for my marriage Together we create our marriage...
Because with this understanding The possibilities are limitless

| Sometimes... | 5/25/2005 |
We must be hurt in order to grow; We must fail in order to know, We must lose in order to gain.
Some lessons are learned best Only through pain.
Sometimes...
Our vision clears Only after our eyes are Washed with tears.
Sometimes...
We have to be broken, So we can be tender, Sick so we can rest and think better; On things more important Than work or fun; Trip near death, So we can assess how we've run.
Sometimes...
We have to suffer lack, So we can know God's provision, Feel another's pain, So we can have a sense of mission.
So take heart, my friend, If you don't understand today, Instead of grumbling, Ask God what He means to say, In order to learn you must endure, And learn to see the bigger picture.
In order to grow, you must stand; Look beyond the hurt To God's loving hand That takes what is good, And gives what is best,
And on this blessed thought, rest:
As your anxious heart, With questions, waits, God's hand only gives What His loving heart dictates.
Sometimes the Lord calms the storm; Sometimes He lets the storm rage... And calms His child.
Better the storm with Christ... Than smooth waters without Him.

He gave me an ocean.
I asked God for a flower, He gave me a garden.
I asked God for a friend, He gave me all of YOU...
If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
Happy moments, praise God.
Difficult moments, seek God.
Quiet moments, worship God.
Painful moments, trust God.
Every moment, thank God.

| May this encourage you always. | 5/9/2005 | Don't spend major time with minor people. If there are people in your life that continually disappoint you, break promises, stomp on your dreams, too judgmental, have different values and don't have your back during difficult times...that is not a friend.
To have a friend, be a friend. Sometimes in l ife as you grow, your friends will either grow or go. Surround yourself with people who reflect values, goals interests and lifestyle.
When I think of any of my successes, I am thankful to GOD from whom all blessings flow, and to my family and friends that enrich my life.
Over the years my phone book has changed because I changed for the better. At first you think you're going to be alone, but after a while new people show up in your life that make your life so much sweeter and easier to endure.
Remember what your elders used to say, "Birds of a feather flock together. If you're an eagle, don't hang around chickens: Ch ickens Can't Fly!
I love the Lord and thank Him for all that he does in my life, therefore, I'm passing this on. Yes I do love Jesus. He is my source of existence and Savior. He keeps me functioning each and everyday. Without Him, I will be nothing.
Without Him, I am nothing but with Him I can d! o all things. Phil 4:13

| One Moment at a Time | 5/3/2005 | There is nothing about the reality of this moment that can overwhelm you. If you feel overwhelmed, it is because you have, in this moment, given life to your disappointments of the past, or to your anxieties about the future. Just imagine how effective you could be right now, in this moment, if you could free yourself from those burdens. And know that, in fact, you can.
What has come before, as overwhelming as it may seem, is over. It exists only in your memory.
And what about the things that might or might not happen at some point in the future? They have no power in this moment other than the power you choose to give them.
Instead of fighting battles that are already over, use this moment to make the best of what is. Rather than struggling against some imagined future, use your energy to create real, lasting value from what is here and now.
Live one moment at a time, with fullness, richness, strength and purpose. And nothing will have the power to overwhelm you.
Have a positive and productive day!

| $20 bill | 4/27/2005 | A well known speaker started off his seminar >by holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, >"Who would like this $20 bill?" >Hands started going up. >He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you >but first, let me do this. >He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. >He then asked, "Who still wants it?" >Still the hands were up in the air. >Well, he replied, "What if I do this?" >And he dropped it on the ground >and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. >He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. >"Now, who still wants it?" >Still the hands went into the air. >My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. >No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it >because it did not decrease in value. >It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE. >You are special- Don't EVER forget it." >If you do not pass this on, you may never know the >lives it touches, the hurting hearts it speaks to, or the hope that it can bring.
