I formatted the drive with the usb cable.. took about 2 hours..
plugged it in (hot PVR up and running and hd up and running)
pop-up screen said press “A” to format.. I pressed “A” the light on the portable flickered for a few seconds then nothing.. on off.. no go.. pull power to pvr and put it back.. no go.. pull power pull sata cable.. power up pvr let it boot.. shut it down again-plugged in sata and powered back up, drive recognized and it worked!

Setup 2 HD movies to record simultaneously and watched a 3rd HD movie that had been recorded previously .. I wanted to make sure it was solid!
So far so good
Test 2. keep recording 2 HD channels all day.. press play on one of the movies I first recorded to the external SATA. The light is flashing rapidly non stop.. the drive is defiantly working hard.. but remains cool to the touch in spite of the fact that there is no cooling fan.

Everything seems fine..
I will post more if anything changes
