First I powered off the cable box, unplugged it and powered it back on before installing this hard drive. It had been a few months since I had power cycled the cable box. Once the cable box came back on, I powered it off again and unplugged it. I attached the eSATA connection to the hard drive then to the cable box. I powered on the hard drive then waited about one minute. I then plugged in the cable box. It rebooted normally but flashed for a couple of second’s “config” in the front LED display. The cable box (on screen) prompted that a hard drive had been detected and select A on your cable remote to format. I selected A. The same message appeared again stating a hard drive had been detected and select A on your cable remote to format. I selected A. I waited about 10 minutes to make sure the drive was formatted. I then selected List on my remote to see my free space. I previously had 20 hours of HD space available. Before I attached this drive I was at 77% used. This is approximately 15.4 hours of HD time. After I installed this drive the percent used dropped down to 9%. This 1TB drive now gives me about 170 hours (total) of HD time. Newegg had this drive on sale for $89.99 with a $20 mail in rebate. I’m using the cable that came with the drive. After the drive was installed I recorded two HD shows and played back one of the two shows recording on a couple of second delay. I tested this way for about three hours. There were three separate events where for about one second the picture “pixilated” but my box does that occasionally. This could have been part of my standard cable feed. It never did last more than a second. I’ve read on the internet that the hard drive inside the Calvary is actually a Hitachi hard drive. I’ve also seen on some other posts that the Scientific Atlantic drives only support up to 500GB external drive. It reads my 1 Terabyte drive with no problems. Hard Drive Model Number CAXH3701T0 RT.
