The 13th Annual Snow Bull Bullriding and Bullfighting competition got off to a great start on Thursday, March 10th. The event which is sanctioned by the NFPB and the BOA has $3000 added money for the bull riding competition Each night 32 of the top riders will compete with the top 6 back for the nightly short go. Thursday night drew three riders who have qualified for the prestigious PBR World Finals: Willis Trosclair; Dustin Hall and Jud Ward. Also on hand was reigning Extreme Bullriding Tour champion Curt Check. Curt was presented with his trophy saddle during the intermission by Todd Crase and Shad Smith. The bulls they are competing on have got some fancy reputations as well. Magic Carpet Ride was market 45 points at the St. Louis PBR recently. Two new bulls are making their first appearances on the Extreme Bullriding Tour. Dakota Country was also in St. Louis and Wiley Peterson won round 3 with him. Bull number 617 formerly known as PFI Crank Shaft has recently been purchased from Gene Owens and will be making his debut on the tour as well. Hot riders and hot bulls for the hottest show on dirt! The bulls were doing their best for the Thursday night crowd and no one was able to cover a bull in the short go. Jason Betison injured his shoulder as he dismounted his bull and was unable to compete in the short go. (Special note-Willis Trosclair who rode for 79 points in the Thursday night performance traveled to the Greenville, NC PBR on Friday where he finished in ninth place with a score of 84) Friday night found the bull riders and bullfighters working in front of a standing room only crowd. At the end of the evening Tom Callahan is leading the average with 170 on 2 with Jesse Krier in second place with 166 on two. The athletes and personnel meet with the fans each night and on Friday night it was one of the largest autograph sessions we have ever seen.
Saturday night was standing room only with a sell out crowd. The excitement was evident before the event started and the outstanding opening it just continued to rise with each ride. The riders seemed to feel the excitement as each man gave it is best shot on the outstanding bulls of the Double S Bull Company. Shad and Vickie Smith are known for the quality of their bulls and each year bring new bulls into the line up. This was the first stop on the Extreme Bullriding Tour 2005 and fans definitely got their moneys worth! Adding to the excitement twelve bullfighters are competing, four each night, in the first Midwest Bullfighters Association challenge of the year. They are competing for the championship and $500 added money. Final Results for the bullfight: 1st Brandon Brazier, Bowling Green, MO 86 $640 2nd Todd Strange, Corinda, IA 82 $400 Wade Kunze, Moorhead, IA 82 $400 4th Justin Patterson, Milan, MO 81 $80 Nevada Miller 81 $80
Each nigh when the evenings competition is over everyone will be headed to Whitey's Bar & Billiards for an After Party, Cowboy Rendezvous, & Cowboy Ball featuring different bands all (3) nights.
Overall it was a great weekend with not only a lot of great bullriding but more like one large family getting together for a big family reunion as it always is when we go to Burlington. We want to end this report with one last thought. As we close the doors for another year on the "Chad Carlson Memorial Arena" we pause to remember our friend and once again thank him for not only the good memories we shared here with him, but for the many more we have had here and the great times we will continue to have at Snow Bull.
